RYA Competent Crew Practical Course
This course is for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers. By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day routines. Location:
- Sailing out of The River Hamble into The Solent and surrounding waters
What’s included:
- Oceanis 37 sail boat (or equivalent)
- Commercially endorsed RYA Skipper/Instructor

Evening meals are not provided. Most crew members prefer to go ashore in the evening to take in the atmosphere, relax and eat out in one of the many restaurants, yacht clubs and pubs usually found within a few minutes walking distance from the marinas we overnight in. If you do not wish to eat ashore the boats galley is always available for own cooking

The course:
During this five day sail & train event you will be trained by an RYA commercially endorsed Instructor. Upon successful completion you will receive the RYA Competent Crew Certificate.
Depending on bookings received, this course could be mixed ability, ie a combination of Competent Crew and Day Skipper students or Competent Crew and Coastal Skipper students
Course content:
Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, her rigging and sails, sail handling, ropework, fire precautions and fighting, personal safety equipment, man overboard, emergency equipment, meteorology, seasickness, helmsmanship, general duties, manners
