This course aims to teach you how to operate a VHF/DSC marine radio, the correct procedures and protocol required for efficient radio communications and how to make Routine, Group, Urgency, Safety and Distress DSC anouncements / alerts and follow up with the VHF voice call using the correct channel for the situation.

About this course
- Minimum age: 16 years, and In line with our Safeguarding Policy young adults under 18 should be accompanied by a responsible adult
- Venue: Willow Farm, Waltham Lane, Harby, Leicestershire, LE14 4DB
- Prior knowledge: Home study of the G31 course book supplied by Ashore Sailing
- Course duration: One day including exam
- Award: Short Range Certificate of Competence
- Course cost: 2024 – £110.00 ( £115.00 from January 2025)
- RYA exam & certificate fee: £70.00 (Payable to the RYA)
- We also offer an EXAM ONLY SERVICE to eligible candidates
SRC exam only option
If you have completed the RYA online course with another Training Centre and are now ready to do the final exam you may find that logistically we are a closer option. If this is the case you can book this service with us. You will need to inform the Training Centre you did the online course with that you are completing the exam with another more local Training Centre and ask them to send us your Exam Eligibility Form.
- Payment for the exam and certification is £70 and made directly to the RYA.
- Ashore Sailing do not require any further payment from yourself.
