This is a six day RYA intensive shorebased course

VHF Radio Course
Our next VHF Radio Course runs on Thursday 14th June 2018.
This one day specialist VHF radio course is a must for Skippers and crew alike.
On the day you will be taught all the necessary skills to operate a modern VHF/DSC marine radio set. Topics covered will include all those listed below and more:
- Initiating DSC alert to Individuals, Groups and All Stations
- Having routine voice communications with other stations on the correct working channels.
- Initiating a DSC Urgency and Distress alert
- Transmitting a voice Pan Pan and voice Mayday
VHF radio course
We have modern Standard Horizon radios, and each student is allocated their own radio for the duration of the course. Maximum class size is six. MORE INFORMATION

Disposal of out of date flares
HM Coastguard no longer provides a routine service for the safe disposal of out of date flares. Other possible options are listed below:
- Check with your flare supplier-they will often be prepared to take them back.
- A local liferaft service agent should be able to help, as they dispose of flares on a regular basis.
- Check with your local port or marina as they may have disposal arrangements.
You must NOT dump flares in:
- Household rubbish
- Garden waste
- Public litter bins
It is an offence to dump flares at sea
How to dispose of these!
The Maritime Coastguard agency offers a last resort disposal service for the public at a limited number of locations. Visit the MCA website to download the current list of sites
